As the 2012 AMA ATV Motocross National Championship Series heads into Round 9 at Redbud in Buchanan, Michigan, Chad Wienen is slightly ahead of last year’s points champion John Natalie.
Wienen, sponsored by Ssi Decals and Walsh Race Craft among others, is very comfortable in the dirt at Redbud. The track was his home more often than not while he was learning to master his craft. Wienen is fresh off a two race winning streak, so a third consecutive win could make him hard to touch in the points standing. That doesn’t mean that Natalie is going to give up. Natalie held a two win streak in rounds 5 and 6, so he is no stranger to the top spot. The outcome of this race could make the round at Loretta Lynn’s very interesting to say the least.
Wienen and Natalie are not the only contenders this year. Joel Hetrick is in his sophomore year on the circuit, but he has been surging lately. Coupled with a top finish earlier in the series, a win at Redbud could put him in serious contention at Loretta Lynn’s. He did finish off the podium a few times, making his need to win even more critical.
The racing at Redbud starts with a full slate of amateur and pro races on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Tickets on Saturday are $20 for spectators ($10 for ages 6-11), and admission includes full pro-pit access and an autograph session. Like with all sports, fans are core and, hopefully, you can make it out.
